This privacy policy describes how AustouringMap ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the AustouringMap Android app and related services.

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the AustouringMap Android application distributed via the Google Play Store and to any related services we provide. By downloading or using the app you accept the practices described in this policy.

2. Personal information we collect

We do not collect any personal information. While the app asks for your GPS location, this is solely used by the app internally and never sent to us.

3. Permissions

The app may request the following Android permissions. You can deny any permission, but some features may not work:

  • ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION — for real-time GPS tracking and positioning.
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE to store downloaded offline maps.
  • INTERNET — to download maps, tiles, updates and optional background sync.

4. How we use information

We use the information we collect for purposes such as:

  • Providing and improving the app and its features (maps, offline caches).
  • Diagnosing and fixing technical issues and crashes.
  • Responding to support requests.
  • Analyzing anonymised usage trends to prioritise feature development.

5. Third-party services & analytics

We may use third-party service providers to host data, analyse usage, provide crash reporting, or process payments. These providers may collect or process data on our behalf. Examples include cloud hosting, analytics and crash-reporting tools.

We will not sell your personal information to marketers. Any sharing with third parties is limited to what is necessary to provide the service (for example to deliver map tiles or handle payments) and is governed by data processing agreements where applicable.

6. Location & offline data

Location data is used to power map features. You can control location permission in your device settings. If you create offline map caches, those files are stored on your device; we do not automatically upload offline caches to our servers unless you explicitly choose a backup or sharing option.

7. Data retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Usage and analytics data may be retained in anonymised or aggregated form for longer periods.

8. Your rights

If you are located in Australia, the handling of your personal information is subject to the Australian Privacy Principles. You may also have rights under other laws (for example GDPR if you are an EU resident). You can:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask for correction or deletion of inaccurate or unnecessary data.
  • Withdraw consent for processing where we rely on consent.

9. Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. However, no internet transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

11. International transfers

Your information may be stored and processed in servers located in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data internationally we will take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with applicable law.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do we will post the new policy in the app and on our website with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
